"The shades make me look cool!"

Hello, my name is Josh and I am a friend of the legendary Alex, and he has gracefully allowed me to have a page where I can share with you my opinions  and views on the latin music genre.  Just to name a few bands that I enjoy are Ozomatli, Jumbo, Quetzal, Juanes, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Kinky, El Gran Silencio, Cafe Tacvba, Jarabe de Palo, Mano Negra, Caifanes, (just to name a few...) Don't get me wrong, I love music in English too, but this aint the place to talk about it...

Juanes "Un Dia Normal"

This album is the sophmore album of Juanes, king of the "vallenato-rock"  and unlike his debut album as a soloist, this album is a lot happier and not as dark as his first.  A suprise in this album is the duet with Nelly Furtado in "Fotografia" , a great song with a message straight from the heart. This album is full of ballads speaking about love, but dont get me wrong, Juanes still has his edge to him. In tracks like "La Paga,"  and  "Mala Gente" Juanes begins to sing about love gone sour,  which is a common topic on his prior album.  It seems he has fallen in love, and it shows in his music, he is alot happier than he was a couple of years ago. He does not speak about social issues like he did in the first, but you can still find some powerful messages in this album.  A recommended listen to anyone young and old!

Jumbo "Restaurant"

This is one of my favorite albums right now. This is an amazing debut from Jumbo, filled with catchy songs that trust me, you'll be singing over and over again.  They bring it back to the basics, great songs made by guitar, bass, drums and keys.  This quintet really proves they can rock with the best of them in tracks like "monotransistor", "aqui". "fotografia" and "siento que..." . Take a listen to these guys, they are increadible. They dont have much latin influence in thier music, they basically play American rock in spanish.  You will not be dissapointed by these guys, they prove it in every track, that Jumbo is here to stay.

Kinky "Kinky"

There is an inmense amount of hype sorrounding this album. The quintet from Monterrey, Mexico made a name for themselves at the L.A.M.C. last year winning the Battle of the Bands Contest. A record contract soon followed and these kids began working on their debut release. While many  will see them as being a "electronica/dance" band, i see them as a latin alternative band. They are creating fresh new sounds, very happy, feel good music.  They have an inmmense amount of loops and layering in their music, but they take you on a ride and dont dissapoint, Key tracks to listen to are "Mas" "Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor" "Sol" "Ejercicio #16" "Sambita" and "Cornman" Dont let their hype fool you, these guys are for real, and they are here to stay! If you wanna cook up a good groove, Kinky has the recipe you're looking for.

News And Gossip

Recently, Enrique Bunbury (ex Heroe Del Silencio) has been qouted saying that he does not enjoy the Panamanian band Rabanes as much as he used to. Speculation is that he is saying this because of Rabanes' ties with Emilio Estefan, a big player in the latin music genre. (Basically he owns a monopoly) Bunbury also stated that any band that decides to coincide with Estefan loses their credibility and respect. This comes right before the Latin Grammy's or better stated "The Emilio Estefan Awards" where it is espected that Rabanes will win some awards for their "hit single" "everybody" Is this jelousy or is Bunbury just stating the obvious, "a call to change the latin music business."
